REVISED STRUCTURE FOR THE SAOY SERIES AOY has existed for some time now and after a number of years without any change or amendments and with our growing membership and increasing number of tournaments, it is obvious that time has come to revise and upgrade the current structure and format of the AOY series. AOY should be a competition, comprising of results obtained from a number of fishing tournaments based on the ZSFA’s “Angling Calendar”. The ZSFA’s “Angling Calendar” should consist of a number of successfully run and operated fishing tournaments sanctioned by the ZSFA and thus awarded AOY status. AOY status of a competition being approved by the ZSFA executive committee. Standards of the management package to apply to the competitions, and competitions looking to obtain AOY status should have at least one year’s trial run before AOY status can be awarded to that competition. Rules and scoring systems to have the approval of the ZSFA. Where the ZSFA is not actively involved in the actual running of a competition There should be minimal interference by ZSFA. As the rules and regulations of the competition will be posted at the time of the announcement of the “Angling calendar”. ZSFA should only involve itself to arbitrate a dispute. All competition rules and dates to be posted on the ZSFA website before the competition season commences. Only limited changes in competition rules may be made at the captains meeting. I.e. start times, weigh in times (weather permitting etc), staggered starts etc. No competition governing rules to change that may affect the outcome of the comp. The AOY series should consist of a number of results that should be between 40 – 75% of the total amount of tournaments that make up our “Angling Calendar”. This is just a guideline with the actual amount of tournaments to count, to be decided on by the incumbent executive committee of that year, and the number to be made known to all ZSFA members at the time of announcement of the forthcoming “Angling Calendar” of that year i.e. 2007 calendar was the best 3 from 5 events. Anglers may only obtain points from the best “whichever number” the committee says for that year and no points from additional competitions to count. e.g. 2007 were the best 3 results to count therefore anglers may not get points or bonus fish from competitions 4 or 5 or both. If the committee decided that it is the best “whichever number” of results to count and an angler fishes less than the stipulated amount, he or she will still get whatever points they have accrued regardless as long as it is under or even to the required amount.e.g.2007 was the best 3 results however if you only fished in 2 competitions then the points obtained from them would still count. Each competition to be awarded a set of points which should be standard and uniform with each other. Points allocated are for the top 10 positions in a competition only. Points to be given to each team member, regardless of whether it is a 2, 3 or 4 person team, depending on the competition format of that particular competition. Points will also be allocated to each competition for 2 “Bonus fish” species only. “Bonus fish” species points are for the individual and not the team. In the unlikely event of a tie in weight for a “Bonus fish” then the points for that particular “Bonus fish” will be divided equally and given to the respective anglers in question. There may be no tied placing in a particular competition for any position that result in attracting similar points for the AOY series. There should always be provision for a count back if exact equal weights are a result at the end of a competition. This is a provision to prevent any points duplication if a particular place is tied on weight in a competition. The count back system should be based on average weight per fish in that case. (To be fair we are looking for quality not quantity). This should be the same for all competitions and communicated at time of the “Angling Calendar” announcement. Points awarded to the competition are to be allocated according to the end result of a competition, which should be governed by the weight of fish caught, be it dead or alive regardless as long as weight is the governing factor. i.e. you can have a point system in a competition by giving points/kg system as long as weight is the governing factor. With the exception of the ZAMBEZI CLASSIC which is a “SPECEIS COMPETITION” where weight is not the governing factor this does not apply. However everything else does and what is required at the end of it is a clear set of results, with the ten top positions only, with no tied placing, as well as its two bonus fish winners only. A competition may have multiple or sub competitions or sections (whatever you wish to call them but they are fractions of main competitions) within the main competition e.g. ZNFC has also got an ultralite section. Only one set of points will be allocated, compromising of a single competition set of points. This will be regardless of how many sub-competitions or sections are within the main competition. The final overall result combining all the sub-competitions should be calculated by means of combining the actual weights and adding them together from all the sub-competitions. Inclusion of a sub-competition should be communicated to the ZSFA executive committee at the time of the forthcoming “Angling Calendar” announcement. So that the ZSFA can make provision for the results calculation of that competition in advance and inform our angling members of the format. The bonus fish species of a particular competition to be identified by the organizer of the event, and communicated to the ZSFA executive committee by the time of the announcement of the “Angling Calendar”. All relevant information regarding AOY statute pertaining to each competition To be attached to all competition entry forms. Points awarded to teams and members after the result compilation by the ZSFA should be published on the ZSFA website after each competition, or alternatively made known to the ordinary members by means of e-mail etc. Below is the structure for a standard set of points 1st = 20 points 6th = 5 points 2nd=15 points 7th = 4 points 3rd= 11 points 8th = 3 points 4th= 8 points 9th = 2 points 5th= 6 points 10th =1 point Biggest Fish Species A = 5 points Biggest Fish Species B = 5 points The AOY format to be reviewed on an annual basis. Finally AOY can be tied and again a count back system may be necessary. This could be done by taking the angler with the most competition wins. If they are still equal AOY could be shared anyway. Summary At the time of the final compilation of the “Angling Calendar” the following information needs to be communicated to our members. 1. The number of tournament results to count for 2008 is three (3). 2. Count back system of average weight per fish in the event of tied placing in a competition. 3. All bonus fish species of all competitions to be announced. |
